If you read my previous posts, you have an idea of how busy I am. Working two jobs and three summer classes, it is hard not to be busy. Being busy is something I’m used to.
I am too busy, too stressed out, and too exhausted.
Lately, I have been too busy, too stressed out, and too exhausted. Job and school wise, nothing has changed. I am still working two job and enrolled in three summer classes. What has changed is the amount of hours I am working.
I went from working 45 hours a week to working 60+ hours a week.
One of my jobs is working as a waitress at a family owned restaurant. Within the last two weeks, two of our servers temporarily cannot work and one server is no longer able to work. This totals up to 15 shifts that now need to be covered. Even though the rest of the staff has been willing to pick up some shifts, they are mostly covered by my brother and me (my parents own the restaurant and are on vacation till the end of August).
Everyday, I wake up and go to work at the restaurant, race to my second job, and then race back to the restaurant. When you add homework and other things that may come up, there is simply not enough time in a day to get it all done.
To keep on going and fight through all this exhaustion, I just keep reminding myself of all the extra money I am making and that it will get better in a month. Until then, you will see my smiling with my eyes closed and carrying a caffeinated drink.
Do you ever look at where you are in life and realize that it is nothing like you expected five years ago?
If you said yes, then we have something in common. When I was younger, I always pictured myself being a nurse, specifically a nurse practitioner. This had been my dream ever since I was in middle school.
After a few semesters in college, I changed majors. Multiple times. Finally, I decided to pursue a degree in Biological Science. Now that I am about to graduate with my degree, all I can think about is what I want to do with my degree.
Should I continue for my masters? Should I find a job in drug discovery? Should I look into analytical positions?
Thinking about the future is scary. There are so many possibilities to choose from. How do you even choose? People always say “do what makes you happy” but that requires you to know what makes you happy.
The truth is, I am not picky when it comes to work. Many people think this characteristic is a good thing, which it is, but it also makes deciding a career path more difficult.
At this point, the only thing I can do is search for jobs and apply. Maybe I won’t hear back from any job openings, motivating me to continue for my masters. Or, maybe, I’ll get hired and start my career then.
In the end, I know everything will work out. I just need to remind myself to breathe and have faith.
Do you ever go eat somewhere for the first time and by next month, you are a regular? Well that’s me at Wasabi Sushi Bar. I love sushi. I can eat it all day, everyday (of course I do not because I am a college student and sushi is pretty pricey).
If you ever get the change to visit Wasabi Sushi Bar in Edwardsville, I recommend the Wasabi Special. It consists of the California roll topped with spicy crunch and chili mayo. In other words, it is amazing. My second favorite roll is the Washington Ave. It consists of the California roll and mixed crab, topped with Wasabi mayo.
Remember when I said that I don’t eat from Wasabi Sushi Bar everyday because I am a college student and sushi is pricey?
Well, I also only go to Wasabi Sushi Bar during happy hour. Why wouldn’t I? I mean, rolls are half off. Plus, my two favorite rolls are listed on the happy hour menu! Happy hour is every Monday from 5:00-9:00 PM and Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3:00-5:00 PM.
So, next time you’re in Edwardsville and get a craving for sushi, you should try out Wasabi Sushi Bar. The staff is friendly and quick. There is also a huge selection on the happy hour list for you to choose from so you can mix and match your favorite rolls.
Summer time is finally here! How’s yours going? Have you visited your local pool as often as you said you would? Gone to every float trip you’ve had the chance to? If you have, that’s great! You are enjoying every bit of sunshine you can! Me, on the other hand, has been way too busy to do anything fun.
I can’t even remember the last day I was stress-free.
2 Jobs. 3 classes.
I’ve always been the type to work a lot. During high school, I kept two part time jobs and was in college-prep courses. Now, I am about to graduate college and I am still doing the same thing.
Unlike most people, I don’t mind it. I like working and having money to support myself (my parents help too). I also like learning. Higher education is key to a successful life. I may spend my summer hours stuck at work or doing homework but I know that it will build the future I want to have.
So if you’re like me and constantly a busy-bee, just remember that it’s worth it. Every extra shift you work and every hour you spend studying will pay off in the end. You are building your future. Isn’t it worth it?
